One man is dead and one officer suffered minor injuries after shots were fired at a Salt Lake hotel and a vehicle was pursued by police in South Salt Lake on Monday morning. A man suspected of committing two robberies and the driver of a pickup truck that opened fire died after leading police on a chase that ended in a hail of bullets. Two stores in Sundance Square, known for their Fort Worth-themed stores, have closed and are hanging up their hats after decades in retail.

The chase ended when the driver crashed into a fence at the intersection of South Salt Lake Boulevard and South Main Street in South Park.

Lauren Bennett, a reporter for Deseret News, was in the parking lot of a McDonald's near the hotel when she heard the shots. Shortly before the shooting, the driver of the car, an 18-year-old man in his 20s, opened fire. The driveway and part of the entrance to the Sheraton were littered with bullet holes, according to Utah State Police spokesman Sgt.
